Implicit Bias functions in an unconscious or unintentional manner, and this type of bias does not necessitate the perceiver to approve it or dedicate attention to its expression (Blair, Steiner & Havranek, 2011) Research shows there is a correlation between implicit bias and healthcare disparities. Issues like COVID-19 and maternal mortality have highlighted the impacts of health disparities. The Center for Disease Control defines Health Disparities as preventable differences in the burden of disease, injury, violence or opportunities to achieve optimal health that are experienced by socially disadvantaged populations. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2018).
