MAN of many masks Steve Coogan pipped the late Father Ted star Dermot Morgan to win Top Television Comedy Actor at the 1998 Comedy Awards last night.
The comic and impressionist, famous for characters such as lager- swilling Paul Calf and Latin lothario Tony Ferrino, also won Best TV Sitcom for I'm Alan Partridge and Top BBC2, C4 or C5 Comedy Personality.
Critics had expected the acting award to go to Morgan, who died earlier this year.
