Abstract
Objective:
To provide expert recommendations for better understanding of the definition and the diagnosis criteria of axial spondyloarthritis (SpA) for current issues regarding the local treatment and follow-up of axial SpA.
Methods:
These recommendations were formulated by Turkish rheumatologists based on literature evidence and consensus opinion. A total of 19 experts were divided in three working groups on definition, diagnosis and treatment of axial SpA. These groups formed a draft of the recommendations and supporting evidence. Secondly, all groups were gathered together into one group and each item was discussed, revised and voted by reaching a consensus. After the voting the mean agreement score was given for each recommendation and a report was prepared including all recommendations.
Results:
The report created for the definition, diagnosis and treatment of axial SpA included 19 recommendations. There were 8, 4 and 7 items in the domains definition, diagnosis and treatment, respectively.
Conclusion:
These recommendations are expected to be used for guidance in defining, diagnosing and treatment of patients with axial SpA.
