Christian education is only in the beginning of its formation and development in Ukraine. Many new Christian schools have been opened throughout the country during the last fifteen years. One of them is Zaporozhye Bible College and Seminary (ZBCS). One of the problems encountered in creating theological curricula has been the lack of books and manuals for students. Obviously, no Christian books, excluding a small amount of Bibles, were printed under the Soviet regime. Therefore, when ZBCS began there was a shortage of theological books and the majority of those available were in English. By now the situation has, slowly, improved. Nevertheless, while many Christian textbooks have been translated into both Russian and Ukrainian, there is a great need for theological books and manuals written by national authors. For various reasons, few such books have been written by national authors, especially in the area of Systematic Theology. Therefore, though many solid works by prominent western theologians have been translated into Russian or Ukrainian and have been well received, a real need remains for theological writing by national writers in their native tongue.
This dissertation aims to serve that purpose; it will be both a manual for Systematic Theology classes at ZBCS and a theology book for lay people in local churches. It could well serve in an adult Sunday School setting, as well. Some chapters of this dissertation are already in use at ZBCS as well as in adult Sunday school classes in a Baptist church in Zaporozhye.
The manual is written and being submitted in Russian. Together with this, an expanded outline of every chapter, in English, is being submitted. There are eight main parts in the dissertation which present the main biblical doctrines according to the standard categories of Systematic Theology.
