EUREKA - Sebetha Jenkins, president of Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas, will deliver the commencement address today at Eureka College. Jenkins will speak during the 10:30 a.m. commencement in Rinker Open Air Theatre, where approximately 100 bachelor's degrees will be awarded. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be at Reagan Physical Education Center. Jenkins became the 10th president of Jarvis Christiam College on Jan. 1, 1991. She formerly was assistant to the president and director of minority affairs at both the University of Akron and Misssissippi State University. Jenkins was appointed by President Clinton to the President's Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities in 1994. She was inducted into the Black Women of Texas Hall of Fame in 1996. During the ceremony, Eureka College will confer upon Jenkins the honorary degree of doctor of humane letters. William Edwards of Indianapolis, associate general minister and vice president in the office of the general minister and president, spoke to students during the annual baccalaureate Friday at Becker Auditorium of the Donald B. Cerf College Center. Edwards is a native of the state of Ohio. He formerly was a pastor in Memphis, Cincinnati and Indianapolis and he was president the Board of Overseas Ministries and chairman of the Common Global Ministries Board. As associate general minister and vice president, Edward's responsibilities include assisting General Minister and President Richard Hamm in implementing policies and initiatives for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
