Students deal with media convergence, advertising and branding strategies as they pertain to the Internet, Web design and programs such as Flash. In September, the school's e-commerce program and Certified Network Professional program both add new components. Concordia University College of Alberta
After-degree diploma in Information Systems Security. The program is designed to meet the needs of government, industry and business and is only the second credit program of this type in Canada. Combines classroom study and a 12-week field placement. The 15 courses and practicum are to be completed in 13 months or four semesters. Open to full or part-time students with a university degree in any discipline -- a background in computers or math is preferable -- the program includes a management focus. The idea is for graduates to be able to move on to managing information security. To ensure the curriculum remains current, reports are made twice a year to an advisory committee of industry and government officials, including members of Epcor, Nortel Networks and the Communications Security Establishment of the Canadian government.Info: www.concordia.ab.ca

Academy of Learning Computer & Business Career College
PC Support Specialist; E-learning courses. The recently launched PC Support Specialist diploma is an eight-month program, revolving around A+ certification, and allowing for entry-level tech positions in computer support or network support. An option to take the A+ certification exam is available. The e-learning program offers a chance to gain information on technology oriented subjects chosen from a large course catalogue. Students buy a time block and complete as many courses as they desire during that period. All courses are offered online and are of moderate duration.

Web design and e-commerce certificate program. With a tentative June launch date, this program is still in the design phase. It will be oriented to secretarial and administrative personnel who want or need to learn about Web design and e-commerce. The King's University College
Bachelor of Science with a major in computing. A four-year degree program, this was launched last September. In addition to regular course work students will complete 130 hours of field practicum in the commercial, industrial or non-profit sector.
