Mrs. Khoo Siew Mun was a distinguished librarian well-known for her significant contributions to the field of professional librarianship in Malaysia and Southeast Asia region. In this article, we document her published and unpublished papers, including articles, bibliographies, working papers, reports and speeches. Throughout her career and even after retirement as a Chief Librarian, she served as an editor for numerous books and led several national and international bibliographic projects.
In addition to her personal publishing endeavours, Mrs. Khoo initiated an inhouse publication of the University of Malaya Library in 1982, Kekal Abadi - Berita Perpustakaan Universiti Malaya, a quarterly journal. The inception of this publication provided a vital platform for the librarians at the University of Malaya to engage in academic publishing and ensure that the development of the library across various dimensions was documented for future research. The success of Kekal Abadi is widely acknowledged, and since the December 1987 issue, it has been indexed in Indeks Majalah Malaysia (published by the National Library of Malaysia) and LISA: Library & Information Science Abstracts (published by the Library Association, London).
Beyond her professional achievements, Mrs. Khoo was a gifted storyteller with a deep passion for writing as seen in the children's books she wrote. Her creativity and commitment to the craft have made her a unique achiever as a library professional.
This bibliography listing reflects her passion and devotion in advancing and promoting library science to the academic community. The listing is divided into two parts. Part I is a compilation of Mrs. Khoo's published works from various sources.
Part II contains a compilation of unpublished works which encompasses conference papers and speeches, project reports (many of which she initiated and led), thesis, academic exercise and term paper required for graduation. The listing also includes personal contributions such as interviews, blog entries, newsletters, and listings from the Internet and Kekal Abadi.
The following sources were searched extensively for this compilation: University of Malaya Library, Sunway University, Malaysia Public Libraries, Online Computer Library Center (OCLC, Inc.), National Library Board of Singapore, National University of Singapore, Scopus, Web of Science, Emerald, and Kekal Abadi in addition to unpublished works. Despite all these efforts, it is expected that this compilation may not be entirely complete.
