Abstract
Omówiono etiopatogenezę, podział, zasady diagnozowania i metody leczenia szumów usznych..
Ringing in the ears (tinnitus) is an unpleasant disorder, which is described by patients as hissing, buzzing or fluttering, or a sound of varied intensity – from hardly perceptible to loud, heard in the ears or in the head. It may be of a transient or chronic character, occur unilaterally or bilaterally. Tinnitus constitutes a serious problem for patients, being tiresome and hampering normal life, or even making it impossible. It is assumed that tinnitus results from abnormal neural activity in the acousticdust. Tinnitus is not a disease; it is associated with different processes in the hearing organ and coexists with some systemic or organ diseases. Exposure to noise is one of the common and significant causes of tinnitus. Tinnitus may be divided into objective and subjective. Treatment of objective tinnitus is of a causative character and allows the obtaining of the greatest therapeutic success, whereas the treatment of self-reported tinnitus is difficult, of a multi-aspect character, and involves the risk of failure.
