Abstract
Ductile iron is desirable for lightweight applications as it has an attractive specific strength when cost is considered. This is especially true for its heat-treated variant, austempered ductile iron. Here, Jordan et al discuss the US Department of Energy's funded research on thin-walled ductile iron.
