AOMORI, Japan: With Japanese Masakawa Yu and Uemura Aiko grabbing the freestyle skiing men's and women's moguls in Aomori, Japan yesterday, the hosts secured their best record at the Asian Winter Games in 13 years pocketing 20 golds.
Unless Kazakhstan, who stood second on the medal tally with seven golds, sweep all 13 titles on offer on the last day of competition on Friday, Japan will secure first place for the first time since the second games in Sapporo, Japan in 1990.
The Japanese, winners at the inaugural Winter Asiad in Sapporo in 1986 and the second edition the same place, did not send their best athletes to the third and fourth games in Harbin, China and Kangwon, South...
