Something new has been added to the annual Lake Hefner Streak scheduled Sept. 20 at Stars and Stripes Park. The Streak planners call it "Oklahoma City's first Inne skating event, the Rollerblade Roll." Also new this year will be a Bike Expo, a sale of various biking accessories from clothing to equipment.
The Streak is hosted by Oklahoma City Beautiful to benefit the Lake Hefner Trails Improvement Program. Stars and Stripes Park is at Portland Ave. on the south end of Lake Hefner.
The Lake Hefner Streak is a timed bicycle event to measure personal achievement at various mileage lengths. A nonmpetitive family fun ride also is planned. Even a bicycle stunt show is on the agenda.
The timed biking events will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by the stunt show. The Rollerblade Roll will be at 1 p.m., the family fun ride at 2 p.m. and the "trike bike" event for children at 3 p.m.
Streak Director Bert Cooper said: "Inne skating is becoming a popular sport nationwide. One of the more active rollerbladers we know of is Lynn Harden, development director for the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics. She skates almost every day _ complete with approved safety helmet, wrist supports and knee and elbow pads. (All of them are required and-or suggested for this competition.)
