CARSON CITY _ Thirteen former lawmakers _ including four from Nevada's last legislative session _ are among 394 people who had signed up by Tuesday to work as lobbyists at the state Legislature.
Leola Armstrong, executive state director of Common Cause, said she favors a requirement that former legislators sit out at least one session before they become lobbyists.
"They are talking to old friends," she said. "There is a buddy system that doesn't change when they leave office."
Former legislators have at least one other advantage over other lobbyists: Assembly rules allow them to walk on the Assembly floor and speak with members during recesses. Senate rules do not give former legislators that privilege.
Common Cause will consider a resolution calling for the cooling-off period during a meeting early next month in Reno.
"I'm sure it will pass," Armstrong said.
