(TNSRep) -- AARP (formerly American Association of Retired Persons) issued the following news release:
AARP's new 2021 Home and Community Preferences survey found that while more than three-quarters of adults ages 50 and older want to stay in their homes (77%) and communities (79%) as they age, one-third (33%) also report their houses would need modifications to be able to do so safely and independently. These needs are consistent for adults overall (ages 18+) who wish to stay in their current homes (63%) and communities (67%).
This comes at a time when the number of older adult households is rapidly growing, intensifying the need to provide more accessible and affordable housing options. Households headed by those age 65+ are expected to grow from 34 million to 48 million in the next 20 years.
Of the adults who are caregivers to someone living on their own, nearly half (49%) are concerned about the ability of the person they care for to continue living independently in their home in the future.
