Notre Dame de Paris" was set to leave our Paris - the casino - after its performances Saturday night. How bad should we feel?
If a silly mess such as "Nebulae" closes (and don't be surprised) - good riddance. But the failure of an ambitious, groundbreaking effort such as this dramatic pop musical - an update of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" saga in the vein of Broadway's "Les Miserables" - further stretches the thin skins of locals.
If this were any city but Las Vegas, it would be an open-and- shut case: The musical didn't generate enough positive word of mouth to fill 1,200 seats every night. The people have voted. Thumbs down. C'est la vie.
But if "Notre Dame de Paris" goes to Broadway and becomes a big hit, you can already hear it: Vegas didn't deserve this show. Us hicks don't "get" anything more complex than surreal eye candy and fire-breathing dragons.
I caught "Notre Dame" on Tuesday, the night the cast was informed...
