The nation's largest youth soccer club, the Milwaukee Kickers, celebrated the opening of its new home Saturday.
Hundreds of people, including Kickers, parents, players from the professional team the Milwaukee MK Rampage and government officials, gathered for the dedication of the $3 million indoor complex.
The Milwaukee Kickers Indoor Sports Complex, 7101 W. Good Hope Road, is an air-conditioned building featuring three soccer fields, one open and two with plexiglass dasher boards, a viewing balcony and concessions. Later this year, the complex will house a sports medicine center and a soccer pro shop.
The indoor sports complex is part of the 52-acre Uihlein Soccer Park, once the home of the Milwaukee Polo Club. The park includes several outdoor soccer fields.
The Milwaukee MK Rampage, in its third year, will move its offices to the sports complex later this month, said Lanier Korsmeyer, park director.
Inside the complex, the 73,000 square feet of greenery is noted for having a low-injury rate and for its simulation of outdoor environment....
