Packard Bell Electronics Inc. will pay $5 million to settle federal and state allegations that it sold used computer equipment as new.
Under a settlement with 22 states that are investigating the way the top nine manufacturers label new and used computers and parts, the No. 2 computer maker also will change the information on some packages to reveal that the enclosed computers may contain used parts.
