Amid the electrical ladders and the viaduct of graffiti-painted walls, the inhabitants of the Plan del Che, Independencias I, II and III neighborhoods of Medellín's Commune 13 live among the tourists. Last year the pandemic reduced the number of visitors, but now an estimated 2,600 people come to the area during the week and on weekends it increases to between 5,000 and 6,000, according to tourist organizations. Some on social networks have commented that it got out of hand, but locals have another perception. "Normally it doesn't affect me at all. Some people don't let you pass, the street gets very congested, but it's good that the neighborhood is well known and the change it has had. Also, the violence has decreased a lot and instead of violence, there is more tourism, more locals," says one of the residents.
