The main objective of present paper to study the effect of perceived stress on personal growth initiatives of inter regional migrant students. Students (947) studying in north Indian universities belonging to Southern, Western, Eastern regions of India, were selected by purposive and chain sampling. Stepwise Regression was applied and found that the dimensions of perceived stress as well as overall perceived stress negatively affect personal growth initiative of inter regional migrant students. The findings, implications and suggestions for future research discussed.

Migration is a process of countless internal and external changes, challenges, having both positive and negative affect on the behavior of each migrant student while the process of adapting and adjusting in the new environment as well as teaching-learning system. Awake (1998) and Mishra et al. (2003) explicated that cultural orientation and the process of socialization are the sources of stress among students. Inter-regional migrant students are those students who are studying out oftheir geographical region of the native country. The term inter-regional migrant students described as "those who are studying in north Indian universities belong to southern, eastern and western regions of India . Extensive evidence proved perceived discrimination became depressive symptoms which are associated with conflict among students because of cultural values, practices and beliefs (Whitbeck et al., 2002). Culture and language difference, backgrounds experience, poorer educational results than their peers belong to native culture or region (Bennett et al., 2004; Conchas & Noguera, 2004; Sanders, 2000) increase the stress among students. Perceived stress is described as psycho-cognitive process and an active state of mind, which enables an individual to realize, understand and interpret any strenuous situations. Cohen et al. (2007) viewed as the individual's responses (both physical & mental reaction) to any event that can cause an overloaded with perceived stress, which resulting may possibly negative effects. Hans (1980) suggested four basic variations in stress: Eustress (good stress); Distress (bad stress); Hyperstress (overstress) and Hypo-stress (under stress). Tremblay et al. (2006) concluded that perceived stress influence daily life of everyone.
