Packaged with a new, slick, mass-appeal cover, jazz returns full time to Tampa Bay radio in July.
Encouraged by successes of what now is termed the "new adult contemporary" radio format in other Florida major radio markets, Paxson Broadcasting will at last fire up its new transmitter in Fort Lonesome with WSJT-FM 94.1 (Smooth Jazz Tampa Bay), the first FM jazz outlet since The Wave (WHVE-FM 102.5) went under three years ago.
"It's a natural for us," said Drew Rashbaum, general manager of Paxson's Tampa Bay stations (rock radio WHPT-FM 102.5, news radio WHNZ-AM 570 and sports radio WNZE-AM 820). "We have very successful jazz stations in Miami and Jacksonville. And there's another right up the highway...
