Abstract

This research studied the effects of Instagram usage on females ages 18–45 years old. The focus of this quantitative method study was whether Instagram usage negatively affected the self-esteem and body image of females ages 18–45. Participants included 150 females of ages 18–45 years old with an active Instagram account. Willing participants filled out an anonymous online survey using Qualtrics. It was hypothesized that Instagram usage would affect self-esteem and body image of participants, however the research showed the amount of time was not correlated to self-esteem and body image. It did show that there was a correlation between Instagram influence and negatively impacting self-esteem and body image. This research will provide awareness about the potential negative effects of Instagram usage females body image and self-esteem. The research provides psychologist and mental health professionals awareness of the relationship between social media on individuals mental health.
