NEW YORK-As mouthpiece restrictions around the world have loosened, teens (and adults) have found themselves at the center of a new dating dilemma: Mask fishing.
What is mask fishing?
Urban Dictionary defines mask fishing as, "The phenomenon in which a person appears to be more attractive because he or she is wearing a face mask."
The phrase came about on the social media platform TikTok, when users would show their viewers what they looked like with a face mask on and what they looked like without it, and ask,"Am I mask fishing?"
It would then be up to the audience to decide: if they look better with the mask on, then they are mask fishing, and if they don't look good, then they are not.
Speaking to the New York Times, Tanushri Sundaram, 17, says she thinks everyone at her school is a bit"mask fishing."
