FOLLOWING THE BREAKDOWN of her glitter-less last album, Mariah Carey is all set to shine as the pop kingdom's biggest-selling superstar with Charmbracelet, her label debut for Universal Music.
Her accomplishments speak volumes for her sustaining power. Before she stumbled badly with a racy late-90s makeover, a collapse from exhaustion mid-last year, a critically-panned movie debut in Glitter, and the failure of her soundtrack album to sell in double- digit millions, 15 of Carey's songs spent a total of 61 weeks at the number one spot on the pop charts, easily qualifying her as the biggest chart success of the past decade.
With her new label, Carey's determined to reinstall her reign as pop music's top-selling artiste. The first single, Through The Rain, a Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis-produced ballad, provides a glimpse of Carey's back- to-basics trail. (The remixed version features Kelly Price and Joe providing back-up vocals.)
