WORCESTER - Local plans to redevelop contaminated industrial sites got a shot in the arm from the federal Environmental Protection Agency, receiving $400,000 of the more than $7 million in grant money that was awarded across the state.
The city was awarded $200,000 to assess the cleanup of the former industrial property at 65 Armory St., part of the planned South Worcester Industrial Park. The Main South Community Development Corp. received $200,000 to assess the cleanup of an old factory building on Grand Street.
Both projects were said to be the beginnings of a redevelopment effort that will clean up old brownfields sites and at the same time lure more investment to the area.
