HOUSTON - In a bid to regain its top-dog position in the portable computer market, Compaq Computer Corp. will sell a high-end multimedia notebook machine chock-full of bells and whistles.
Among the features are a removable CD-ROM drive, stereo sound, wireless capabilities and hard drives as big as 1.35 gigabytes.
But you can't buy one today. The LTE 5000 line won't be available until sometime in September, said Sharon Francia, Compaq's director of portable product marketing for North America.
