AOL e-mail glitch
traced to Windows 95
Dulles, Va. America Online Inc.'s electronic-mail function contains a security flaw related to a version of Microsoft Corp.'s Windows 95 operating system that is currently being used by 200,000 of AOL's 8 million subscribers, the Boston Globe reported, citing tests the newspaper conducted.
AOL is working to fix the flaw, which could allow a computer user to erase data stored on another machine by sending e-mail that contains so-called "hyperlinks." Users of earlier versions of the operating system or of Macintosh computers aren't affected. (Bloomberg)
