Abstract
This introduction to the special issue in honor of the 40th anniversary of Julian Simon’s book The Ultimate Resource relays the significance of the book’s contribution and connects the idea of the book and its author with Austrian economics and mainline economics more generally. It then explains how The Ultimate Resource laid a fruitful foundation with which modern scholars can address environmental and population issues. Lastly, the introduction shows how each contribution in the issue builds on that foundation.
