Abstract

The first scene actor-director Francis Gercke saw when he visited New York's Actor's Studio was one from Michael V. Gazzo's 1954 drama "A Hatful of Rain."

Gercke and his wife, actress Kristianne Kurner, enrolled in the first graduating class of the Actors Studio Drama School and both went on to earn master's degrees in 1997. They studied under the direction of David Gideon, former director of the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute of New York.

Gercke and Kurner moved to Oceanside last year, and with the support of Kurner's parents, they launched New Village Arts, a theater company that produced "Brilliant Traces" to rave reviews last December.
