Gótico andino o neogótico ecuatoriano sobre el horror metafísico

Abstract

El artículo trata sobre el gótico andino ecuatoriano, modalidad de la literatura fantástica, tratando de identificarlo como una versión distinta a lo que se escribe en Ecuador desde el siglo XIX. Este nuevo gótico, de corte feminista, si bien usa recursos inherentes al género, es decir, la generación del miedo a partir de una escritura que realiza el extrañamiento de la realidad, poniéndola en otro plano, lo hace recurriendo a temáticas contemporáneas. Es así como se muestra que, si bien hay una tradición del gótico ecuatoriano, la presencia de escritoras mujeres que renuevan la literatura ecuatoriana es innegable. Se estudia cómo ellas postulan los ejes y senderos del gótico andino y, con ello, se trata de evidenciar que su trabajo estaría en la línea del horror metafísico.

The article discusses the notion of «Andean Gothic». It shows that, although there is an Ecuadorian Gothic tradition, the «Andean Gothic» approach, embracing some of the modality’s conventions, and thanks to its link with the North American «Southern Gothic» for the production of fear, raises more contemporary themes from the perspective of female writers, who also renew Ecuadorian literature. It is recognized, however, that the notion of «Andean Gothic» entails problems that prevent its real application, if the work of other writers is considered. Thus, it suggests that, given the desire to give horror literature a place in the country, it could rather be understood as the «Ecuadorian neo-Gothic», which would integrate the most vital elements of the Gothic with which it is anchored, in addition to the local mythical universes.
