RALEIGH - Ask Alan DeVaney what he likes about owning his own business, and he gets straight to the point.
"I guess that I've always liked the challenge," he says. "I like building."
He pauses for a second as a mischievous twinkle enters his eye, then adds, "and my boss ain't bad."
DeVaney, who enjoys bringing his dog "Gizmo" to the office with him, is the owner and president of Raleigh-based Crispin Corp., a provider of broadcast automation software for television stations and cable companies.
DeVaney founded the company in Phoenix in 1997 along with cofounder Carlos Cela. When DeVaney moved to Raleigh for personal reasons a year later, he brought the company with him. He bought out Cela in 2003.
