MP Barry Sheerman has criticised the grade II listing of the library and Queensgate Market Hall in his Huddersfield constituency.
Sheerman, a Labour MP, said the library was "disliked" and branded the market hall "classic bad 1970s design" and "claustrophobic and dark".
The comments are in marked contrast to culture minister David Lammy's praise for the buildings when he listed them last week. Lammy described the market as "a dramatic space full of natural light" and praised the library for its "original balance...
