Nokia (NOK) will supply a GPRS network to be launched for commercial use this year by Germany's Viag Interkom, according to a contract between the companies. Nokia will deploy a core GPRS system for Viag Interkom comprising its GPRS service support node, gateway GPRS support node, charging gateway and Internet protocol backbone components. In addition, Nokia will help integrate the GPRS core network into Viag Interkom's existing infrastructure. Viag Interkom, a joint venture of utility provider Viag, British Telecom (BT) and Norway's Telenor, is deploying GPRS technology to provide mobile Internet access, offering packet-switched data through the GPRS-enhanced GSM network.
