AlohaBob's PC Relocator is one of the better digital analgesics I've reviewed recently. The pain removal is welcome. Sure, there are swear words for 'I Love You' viruses, restoring from backup files that had critical holes in them and, of course, the dreaded revision synchronization dilemma. But until now, I could defy you to take a software and data set from a machine that had a dozen months' average use, full of applications, widgets, plug ins and service packs, and move it to another machine unless you were a wizard with loads of time on your hands.
The Windows relocation problem is madly frustrating. People actually back up their data, reformat a machine or install a new one, then reinstall all of the dozens of applications and software widgetry from the old platform onto the new platform. You can hear the swearing for miles.
Here's how the problem starts: if you buy a new machine today (it'll have Windows Millennium Edition on it soon), your chances of grafting your old machine's software to the new one will be tough for three...
