Hell, you can't argue with the price. At an SRP of $199.99, the Creative Labs PC-CAM 300 sure is easy on the wallet. And thanks to Creative's self-style "hip, organic design," the web-cam/PC camera/digital still camera is easy on the eyes, too. As a matter of fact it kind of looks a black, solid roll of scotch tape, not a wholly unattractive item to ogle. But enough about the PC-CAM 300's looks; what about its functionality? Well, here's a tip: you'd better get close to your subject. Real close. In the range of test shots Cbiz took, we discovered that once you get farther than, say, five feet away from your subject, the flash has limited use. This limitation, obviously, wouldn't be a factor is you were using the camera as a web cam mounted on top of your monitor, as most people tend to sit closer than five feet from their monitor and keyboard, unless they have really, really long simian-like arms. (And it's not CBiz's place to cast aspersions on those of us who have yet to evolve from primate states.)
