Zocor Heart-Pro (simvastatin 10mg)

Zocor Heart-Pro, the world's first OTC statin, was given the go- ahead by the Department of Health this week despite GPs' reservations.
Health secretary Dr John Reid announced on Wednesday that Zocor Heart-Pro (simvastatin 10mg) could be sold over the counter via pharmacies, but it still awaits licence approval from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency which is expected in June.
Dr Reid said: "Pharmacists will need to get people to complete a questionnaire and will offer a range of health tests where appropriate, to ensure that it is safe to issue this drug. And anyone who is currently prescribed statins by their GP can continue to receive them on prescription.
