Abstract

This study tested the relationship between Authentic Leadership and the in-extremis experience. It used the Authentic Leadership Questionnaire (ALQ) developed by Walumbwa, Avolio, Gardener, Wernsing, & Peterson. The study was conducted using junior leaders from the Army National Guard and measured their in-extremis experience based on their deployment for Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. No significant results were found except for a positive relationship between the Authentic Leadership construct of Balanced Processing and the subject's deployment to a combat zone. Recommendations for further research are discussed.
