Roland L. Bragg, 75, a building mover and sawmill operator who saw considerable action during World War II, died of cancer Tuesday at his home on Old Route 1.
Mr. Bragg was an Army paratrooper in Europe, serving in a unit which had the job of jumping into enemy territory and clearing the way for others. He was awarded a Silver Star and the Purple Heart and was captured briefly by the Germans, said his daughter, Linda French. "The only reason he got away was that he was a Mason," she said. "The German soldier was a fellow Mason. The guy said, 'hit me over the head and take off,' and he did and took off with an ambulance."
