Abstract

Quality management in foundry involves the interaction of numerous management functions and multitude of interconnecting information flows. Therefore integration of various process management functions was recognised as key to quality management. For this RDBMS framework in ORACLE? was identified as suitable platform for developing an integrated system using the concepts of software engineering.

A national survey of Indian foundries was carried out to understand the present status of quality related problems. The results of this study encouraged to carry out a detailed diagnostic study in a large steel foundry with a special focus on nonmetallic inclusions (NMI) problem. This study on NM which is major problem in foundries, helped to get better insight into major quality related problems in foundries.
