Kathy Roemer, of Fountain, CO, died January 10, 2023, at the age of 69. A proud advocate for Montessori and a guiding mentor for many educators, she was president of the AMS Board (2011-2013) and the 2020 recipient of the Douglas M. Gravel Benefactor Award (2020). Kathy held an Early Childhood Montessori credential, a bachelor's degree in archaeology and anthropology, a master's degree in Montessori education, and a doctorate in instruction and curriculum development.
Kathy discovered Montessori in 1985 while searching for a preschool for her son. She would go on to found and run schools in Texas, Tennessee, and New York. She retired from her final position, as executive director of Twin Parks Montessori School, in New York, NY, in 2021.
Kathy's contributions to AMS were immense; she joined the AMS Board in 2006 and served as vice president and then president. She was also a charter member of the AMS School Accreditation Commission, chairing it for 4 years. Many schools remember her accreditation visits fondly; she dedicated herself to supporting schools in providing the highest-quality Montessori education for their students.
