COMMUNMITY BOARD 9
Across Queens, community boards have begun the process of creating the city budget for Fiscal Year 1989 by writing Statements of District Needs. The statements offer a close look at problems facing the neighborhoods and priorities of community leaders. They also form a base for discussion with city agencies - the next step in writing a budget. Here is the statement from Community Board 9.
Community Board 9 consists of four communities, each with its own distinct social and ethnic characteristics - Kew Gardens, Richmond Hill, Ozone Park and Woodhaven.
PARKS. The rehabilitation of Forest Park continues to be a priority. This is an immense task. There are many specific proposals for Forest Park, among them: rehabilitation of the golf house into a community center, construction of a new golf house and correction of the erosion problems along the bridle path. The park is in need of a master plan for rehabilitation, including restoration of the antique carousel. The bandshell hosts many performances, and a cultural center of this type should be the showplace of the park. We are, therefore, recommending total rehabilitation and redesign of the bandshell. The maintenance crew also needs to be increased, and more staff is needed for the resource center. We also urge increased funding for our Forest Park Eco Center.
