Hofstra University School of Law has named professor Stuart Rabinowitz, an expert in litigation and mass media, as its fifth dean.
"He stands out in any crowd of professionals," said the university's president, James Shuart, who made the announcement. "And our law school, which has come a long way in a short period of time, is headed for a great future under his direction."
Rabinowitz, 43, the school's Alexander M. Bickel Distinguished Professor of Law, will have the task of following Eric J. Schmertz, who retired in June after seven years in the job.
Under Schmertz, the school's national rating climbed from 98th to 28th among the 175 accredited law schools in the Gourman Report, a nationwide rating of graduate and professional programs. In addition, the 19-year-old law school now ranks fifth among the 15 in New...
