It was easier to select the top sports movies [Feb. 11! than to pick the all-time worst of the genre. Though there have been a host of low-budget B-movie bombs (Would you believe "Full Moon High" about a football star who becomes a werewolf?), we have leaned toward "A" turkeys in this near impossible endeavor.
Here are the worst of the worst:
10. Swing Your Lady, 1938; Humphrey Bogart, Nat Pendleton, Ronald Reagan. Promoter Bogart arranges a wrestling match between Pendleton and a lady blacksmith (Louise Fazenda) for $100. They fall in love and Pendleton somehow winds up with a date to wrestle in Madison Square Garden. Reagan appears briefly as a sports reporter.
9. Penitentiary II, 1982; Leon Isaac Kennedy, Mr. T., Glynn Turman. Boxing champ Kennedy doesn't want to fight anymore, but villains seeking revenge kill his girl - after raping her - to make him fight. Lots of sex, violence and foul language.
8. Racquet, 1979; Bert Convy, Phil Silvers, Bobby Riggs, Bjorn Borg. Country club tennis pro Convy finds out to his dismay that there's more to life than just being a stud. Riggs has a fairly prominent role and Borg plays Borg.
