John B. MacDonald, founder of the athletic program at Hofstra University, died yesterday in Venice, Fla. He was 81. Born March 6, 1908, in Norwich, Vt., Mr. MacDonald attended New York University in the 1930s and played football and baseball there. He later was a member of a professional Staten Island sports team. He earned a bachelor's degree and a master's of business administration from NYU.
