THERE SHE was! The piece de resistance of anybody's celebration - Madonna - sitting with David Geffen in the great entrance hall of the New York Public Library for the Saturday night wedding reception of super show-biz attorney Allen Grubman to the beautiful Deborah Haimoff.
Madonna, still brunette, was wearing a sedate and tasteful black dress. She said being in NYC was "liberating" since she had escaped momentarily from her basball movie being filmed out in McCutchanville, Ind. Madonna has about 10 days left on "A League of Their Own," directed by Penny Marshall. She said, "I know Penny didn't really want me to come East. She is probably looking for me right now, saying, `Hey, where's Mo?' But I just had to see Allen and Deborah's big moment."
These two, recently profiled by Vanity Fair, brought out stars galore - Jellybean Benitez, who told me he is about to marry his Carolyn, who already calls herself Mrs. Benitez and is the mother-to-be of his child . . . Robert De Niro . . ....
