A survey of 23 air cargo handlers and carriers shows modest interest in the idea of using Grumman Corp.'s Calverton site as an air cargo jetport, according to a report released yesterday by the Long Island Regional Planning Board.
An analysis showed fast-rising costs at Kennedy Airport for freight firms that would have "significantly lower operating costs than they currently have" if a Calverton cargo center existed, the report said.
The planning board is conducting a $486,000 study for the Federal Aviation Administration of the feasibility of a cargo jetport that would share the Navy-owned Grumman site....
