The New York Hall of Science, which began as a World's Fair exhibit 28 years ago, is poised to enter the 21st Century with an ambitious expansion plan that will quadruple the size of the unique, hands-on museum over the next eight years.
The first phase of construction, which began last month at the Flushing Meadows-Corona Park facility, is scheduled for completion by 1995. The $13million project calls for the construction of a 47-foot rotunda facing 111th Street that will serve as the new entrance to the Hall of Science, a new 300-seat auditorium, an expanded gift shop, a 300-seat dining pavilion, renovated classroom spaces and new landscaping and sidewalks.
The total area of the hall is expected to increase by 28,411 square feet, doubling the amount of public space. The plans were designed by...
