The Long Island Rail Road soon will be telling riders who use 10 of its least-used stations to find somewhere else to catch their trains.
After more than a year of debate, the railroad is preparing to put up posters announcing the March 16 closing of the stations in Nassau, Suffolk and Queens.
The stations being closed are Fresh Pond, Glendale, Richmond Hill, Mill Neck, Penny Bridge, Haberman, Holtsville, Center Moriches, Quogue and Southampton Campus-LIU.
Railroad officials say six of the stations see fewer than 10 riders a day, and none sees a daily average of more than 20. The railroad will suggest other stations where riders can catch trains after March 16.
