The Medal of Honor that Theodore Roosevelt believed he earned for gallantry in the Spanish-American War 103 years ago - but was awarded only last month - is coming to TR's Sagamore Hill home.
The medal, the nation's highest military honor, will be on display at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site in Cove Neck from April 2 until the end of the month.
TR's medal will be displayed with another Medal of Honor, awarded to his son, Theodore Jr., for his actions as the first general ashore during the D-Day landing in Normandy in 1944. The exhibit will be at the Old Orchard Museum, which was Ted Jr.'s home adjacent to TR's Sagamore Hill mansion.
TR's great-grandson, Boston investment adviser Tweed Roosevelt, who led the family's three-year effort to persuade Congress and then- President Bill Clinton to award the medal to TR, will bring it to Sagamore Hill and be on hand to speak and answer questions at the opening of the exhibit. Clinton presented the medal to Tweed Roosevelt in a ceremony in the Roosevelt Room at the White House on Jan. 16, four days before he left office.
