Thomas and George Makkos, Greek immigrants whose food-service empire has grown to include Terrace on the Park in Flushing Meadows, are expanding eastward, purchasing one of Long Island's largest catering venues.
The brothers made a $7.6-million winning bid to take control of John Anthony's on the Water during an auction Thursday at U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Central Islip. The well-known Babylon waterfront restaurant is being sold as part of bankruptcy proceedings involving assets once owned by the late Huntington sand and gravel magnate Sam Albicocco.
