Society's problem with domestic violence is not surprising because it's mostly linked to parenting skills and a child's brain development, said Los Angeles-based advocates this week.
About 100 professionals from around Utah attended "Teaching Nonviolent Parenting to Families Who Have Known Violence," a free conference at the Robert G. Sanderson Community Center of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, on Monday.
Ruth Beaglehole, founder and director of the LA-based Center for Nonviolent for Education and Parenting, told the audience -- comprised mostly of women who work with domestic violence survivors and abusers -- about the benefits of using the "power with" concept versus "the "power over."
