Now that the ballyhooed new United Paramount Network (UPN) has launched its major reason for existing in "Star Trek: Voyager," we get a chance tonight to see its other two dramas.
Pretty, it isn't. Original, they aren't. About the best that can be said for either - "Marker" at 8 p.m. and "The Watcher" at 9 p.m. (Both on KCOP-Channel 13) - is that they don't kick off with two-hour openers.
Both UPN and the WB (the Warner Bros. network) have made a lot of noise about offering fresh and bold alternatives to what the established networks are scheduling. But it turns out that noise is about as good as it gets.
"Marker" is a drama set in Hawaii - like we've never seen a show like that on TV before. How do these guys do it?
"Marker" also has as its primary stars a couple of series retreads named Richard Grieco (Fox's "21 Jump Street" and "Booker") and Gates McFadden (Dr. Beverly Crusher on "Star Trek: The Next Generation"). They're both OK actors, but new blood...
